A family schedule-management app that enables families with various structures to organise and manage their schedules equitably. This challenge inspired the name "Ohana" from Disney’s film Lilo & Stitch (2002): “Ohana means family, family means no one get left behind or forgotten.” The first project completed as part of the Google UX Design course, using the Empathise, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test method.

I started by thinking about the kinds of people who would use a family schedule-management app. I tried to consider a wide variety of people and paid special attention to include different family types.

“As an older brother and full-time university student, I want to share my schedule with my family and coordinate our time."

Competitive Audit
The competitive audit was a challenge as I felt overwhelmed by the number of organization and schedule management apps and felt uncertain judging the UI and UX.
I wasn't sure how to distinguish between 'okay', 'good', or 'outstanding' elements and in many cases, I had to rely on on the app’s website, reviews, and YouTube videos rather than the app itself.

However, once I refocused on my prompt and intention behind the name "Ohana", which helped me decide on making a family calendar app.
I looked at lists of ‘Top 10 Family Calendar Apps’ blogs and articles, helping me understand this market niche and identify the best or most popular tools.

Having looked at many types of organisational tools, and diving deeper into family calendar apps gave me a better I idea of what I found great and what areas there were for improvement:

Liked
Calendar Features:
multiple views, filters, icons, repeating events, tags, assigning tasks, reminders, notes, familiar layouts and forms
Consideration for Multiple Family Types
Beautiful and Fun

Areas for Improvement
Age Appropriate?
gamified chores could encourage excessive or inappropriately competitive or reward driven behaviour that might not suit some children or families
Accessibility
text heavy, little to no icons or images, screen reader compatible?, limited customisation, complex/learning curve
